Abstract: Mango fruit crop is known as King of fruit in India, occupying highest area and second in production after Banana. There are many varieties available (>1000) for cultivation in India but only few varieties are commercially cultivated for both domestic and export purpose. Normally mango was cultivated under normal spacing of 10 × 10 m but recently, due to the scarcity of per capita availability of land. Farmers are thinking of accommodating more number of plants per unit area in this connection an investigation was carried out to study the suitability of different mango varieties grown under high density planting for quality attributes. Out of five varieties viz., Alphonso, Amrapali, Kesar, Mallika and Totapuri studied, the maximum TSS, TTS : acidity ratio, reducing sugars, non-reducing sugars, total sugars and minimum acidity was recorded in Mallika (16.23 ̊B, 92.05, 6.22%, 15.92%, 22.14% and 0.18 % respectively). The maximum score for organoleptic parameters like pulp colour (8.42) was recorded in variety Alphonso whereas, Mallika obtained maximum score for taste (8.17), aroma (7.83) and overall acceptability (8.08). Mallika fruit was found best for quality parameters.
