Growth and yield of crossandra cultivars as influenced by mulching and spacing

Author(s): Patil LK, Patil SS, Mantur SM and Bidari BI

Abstract: A field experiment was conducted to study the effect of mulching and spacing on growth and yield of different crossandra varieties at Department of Horticulture, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad during 2018-19. The experiment was laid out in Factorial Randomized Block Design comprised of four different varieties (V1 - Arka Kanaka, V2 - Arka Shravya, V3 - Arka Shreeya and V4 - Arka Ambara) along with mulching (M1) and without mulch (M2) at two spacings (S1 - 60 cm × 45 cm and S2 - 60 cm × 30 cm) replicated twice. The results of the study indicated an increasing trend in plant spread and number of branches at wider spacing with mulch in Arka Shravya. Maximum number of flowers per spike and flower yield were obtained in Arka Shravya. Wider spacing (S1) yielded maximum flower yield plant-1 whereas, low yield was noticed in closely spaced plants (S2). With mulch treatment showed higher values for all the parameters compared to without mulch. Treatment combination V2M1S1 had produced maximum plant spread and flower yield plant-1. While, V2M1S2 combination recorded greater plant height and yielded more flowers spike-1 and m-2.
